In accordance with the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ programme initiated by the Government of India, IIM Indore organized an Open Mic Night on November 25, 2017. The event was organized by El Amigo, an initiative of the Institute which endeavors for the protection of students’ psychological well-being; to commemorate the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to the nation. With support from the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD); the event also aimed at focusing on the culture of north eastern states.
During the event, participants, along with IIM Indore community got a chance to speak out their mind and share their talents. The Open-Mic Night had poetry recitations, stand-up comedy, shayari, singing and even dance performances. The main highlight of the evening was a performance by ‘Shrut’, a folk band in Indore, which showcased India’s rich cultural heritage through its mesmerizing folk music from different regions of the country. The band – which comprises of Apurva Raje, Monis Rehman and Prashant Chaudhary among other artists – aims at bringing the lost folk music of India to the masses. It carried the spirit of our ‘Iron Man’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, uniting the diverse audience through music.
‘We have always been reading inspiring stories about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his efforts to unite the country. We, the students of IIM Indore also aim to remain united, with participants from different regions, traditions and cultures among us’, says Elina Ann Cyriac (IPM 2015-20).
‘IIM Indore community itself is a representation of Indian diversity. We have our batch-mates from all over India, with various cultures and traditions. This not helps us learn about various cultures around the nation’, says Shreye Yadav, (IPM 2015-20), Student Activity Coordinator, IPM.
The event witnessed a huge participation from entire IIM Indore community.
