The first psychology workshop for the academic year 2015-16 was held at IIM Indore on September 3, 2015, organized by Zephyr: Psychology Interest Group of the Institute. Motivational speaker and mentor, Mr. Pratik Uppal, who is also the Director of JJM Security and Hospitality Care Private Limited was the guest speaker. Mr. Uppal discussed on the topic: Are You a Dreamer? Objective of the workshop was to identify the untapped talent in students doing the un-do-able.
Mr. Uppal started his speech discussing about the types of dreams one sees with his/her eyes open. ‘You should always value the opportunities you get and remember that whatever you admire can never come to you free of cost’, Mr. Uppal mentioned. Discussing about hope, Mr. Uppal said that to live a full life and explore the world, one should keep on giving a try to each and everything possible but never compromise with dreams. ‘Start with the baby steps which lead you to your dream but don’t stop once you achieve your goal. Go for a new one’, he said.
Mr. Uppal also shared his childhood experiences and advised the students not to stop aiming high. Competing with self every day and being a self motivator is the key to positivity, he said. He connected dreams and success to science and mentioned ways to stay optimistic. ‘There are three types of people around you: electron, proton and neutron. Few would always de-motivate you; few would not suggest anything and a few would always be positive about whatever you are doing. However, you yourself have to stay positive even if there is a lot of negativity around you. Stick to the dream, no matter what your age is’, he said.
Comparing life to a boxing ring Mr. Uppal said that everyone in his/her life has failed many times. But we need to keep the spirit to get up again, fall again and again rise till the dream is achieved. ‘Clock keeps ticking. Time stops for no one. There may be times when you get scared or tired and want to quit thinking about what you have dreamt for years. But one should always live the life he loves and love the life he lives’, he said.
Mr. Uppal concluded his speech discussing about the famous personalities like Abhinav Bindra and RS Agarwal, suggesting the participants to dream as much as they want and work in the same direction without losing hope, as dreams do come true.
