IIM Indore celebrated the 67th Republic Day on January 26, 2016 with full patriotism, pride and honour. The entire IIM Indore community assembled for the celebration. Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIM Indore hoisted the National Flag. This was followed by National Anthem sung by all the faculty, students and staff of the Institute.
In his Republic Day Address, Professor Krishnan mentioned that although some people are critical about the Indian Constitution because it has been amended many times, one should believe that it has been a binding force for the country, providing framework to help us all work together. ‘On this occasion I would like to pay homage to the architects of the constitution as well as all the institutions, in particular the judiciaries, which have worked hard for strengthening the constitution effectively’, he noted. He also thanked the legal luminary, late Mr. Nani A. Palkhivala along with other legal fraternities who served the country by building our constitution. He said that we have a lot of people in our country with plenty of potential who just need to realize their capabilities.
Citing some outstanding examples of skill development and what lessons we can learn from them, he mentioned how Sant Singaji Institute of Science and Management, Sandalpur has helped its participants excel in other skills too along with academic knowledge. He also mentioned about Mr. Madan Padaki, Co-Founder and Director, Head Held High Services and noted that his team has been giving special training courses to people with little or no knowledge of English to become call center associate. He cited the example of Rural Gurukul, set up by PAN IIT, running short term skill development courses under the supervision of ex-servicemen. He noted how Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences which has a unique model of offering diploma, certificate and degree courses in various fields of applications using a German Model. Similarly, Agastya Foundation situated near Bangalore focuses on making science education more realistic for kids. It also trains its teachers to be more effective.
Judicious combination of knowledge skills and good work make all the difference, said Professor Krishnan. At IIM Indore, we have been trying to bring more skills to curriculum to compliment the strong conceptual and analytical input that we have always provided to our students, he said.
Concluding his address, Professor Krishnan said, I salute all of those who have been taking on the challenging mission of helping our countrymen realize their full potential. The good work will complete the picture to outline the so thoughtfully grown by the authors of Indian Constitution.
