IIM Indore Celebrates 76th Independence Day

Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) family came together to celebrate the 76th Independence Day on August 15, 2022. Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, hoisted the Tricolour. Col. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi (Retd.), CAO, IIM Indore, was also present.

In his Independence Day address, Prof. Rai spoke of acquiring ‘real freedom by overcoming fear, negativity, and envy.’ Explaining further, he shared his views about the three types of fears we face, namely, fear of losing money, fear of change, and fear of failure. ‘We often think about money in terms of self-worth. If you can separate desires from necessities and manage your desires, you will attain freedom from the fear of losing money’, he said. Explaining how we, as humans, often resist change, Prof. Rai threw light on the significance of the status quo in our lives. Change is inevitable, and we need to accept the change – no matter what, for that enables us to be free from the fear of change. ‘We are all scared of change because we have doubts about failure. ‘What if I fail, what if I lose? These thoughts often stop us from accepting change and make us afraid of failure. Remember, we don’t fail if we lose. We fail when we stop trying. He said that one needs to work hard and have the perseverance and grit to achieve their goals.

Prof. Rai also advised the gathering to eliminate negativity from their lives. ‘Many times, we are surrounded by people who discourage us and tell us what we are doing is wrong and why it won’t work. We must live our lives as we want and focus on our goals. You can only contribute to others’ welfare when you are content with yourself. He added you could keep others happy and healthy only when you feel happy and are healthy. He encouraged the IIMI community to rejoice in each other’s achievements. ‘Let us be free of envy and jealousy and motivate each other. Let us believe that what is good for the nation is good for the institute and us’, he said.

The day also witnessed the felicitation of several employees for their outstanding performances and contribution to the institute. The school-going children of the community shared some creative artworks on this glorious occasion, focusing on the theme Amrit Mahotsav and My Tiranga. They made brilliant sketches and paintings of their favorite Indian freedom fighters, shared on the institute’s social media platforms. Being a part of the Har Ghar Tiranga initiative, all the members of the IIMI community hoisted the Tricolor at their abodes on campus.
