– Joint research to allow the civil servants to come together and contribute

IIM Indore is keen to contribute to nation-building and ensure taking initiatives for environmental protection, nature conservation, and encouraging sustainability. In line with this, the institute has joined forces with the Indian Institute of Forest Management Bhopal (IIFM Bhopal). The MoU that intends to provide  opportunities for professional, scholarly, and academic interaction on the relevant issues was signed by Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, and Mr. Subhash Chandra (IFS), Director, IIFM Bhopal, on June 29, 2022.

Mentioning that IIM Indore believes in taking multiple steps for the greenification of the campus and the nearby areas, encouraging sustainability, and reducing the energy consumption, Prof. Rai said that this MoU will be yet another step to contribute to the environment. ‘I am delighted to sign an MoU with IIFM Bhopal. We at IIM Indore plant around 500 trees annually and have substantially reduced electricity and water consumption by a substantial amount by using solar plants, special faucets, and rainwater harvesting. He said that this association further enables us to conduct research and combined programs in the field of sustainability, environmental issues, natural resources management, and climate change. The association also comprises conducting various certificate courses, lectures,
seminars, workshops, panel discussions, webinars, etc., on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues, public policy, rural development, livelihoods, wildlife, and biodiversity conversation, and related areas. ‘We also aim at identifying and inviting serving and retired civil servants, academicians and researchers, and other knowledgeable individuals to partake in ongoing research or development of programmes of shared interest’, he said. He noted that IIM Indore has recently received the One District One Green Champion Award from MGNCRE and has bagged a Silver for its CSR Activities from AMBA and BGA.

Mr. Chandra also expressed his joy over collaborating with IIM Indore. He said that under this MoU, both the institutes would liaise in teaching, research, and publication for environment-related activities. ‘We look forward to jointly identifying and pursuing opportunities for formulation and submission of new research project proposals or training programmes for possible funding by the government’, he said. He noted that the alliance also encourages the exchange and collaboration of researchers and faculty as Principal Investigator and Principal Co-investigator at their respective ends for any project. ‘We look forward to the support offered by the brilliant faculty of IIM Indore on relevant topics, including public policy, governance, administration, rural development, etc.’, he said.

The MoU will be valid for five years.
