IIM Indore Spearheads Skill Empowerment for Madhya Pradesh’s Youth

  • IIM Indore partners with SSR GSP and MPSDP for skill development excellence in Madhya Pradesh’s youth
  • The institute will craft courses designed to equip the youth with skills tailored for dynamic industries, culminating in industry-aligned certifications

Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore), in its firm commitment to empowering the nation’s youth, has embarked on a transformative journey with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sant Shiromani Ravidas Global Skills Park (SSR GSP) and Madhya Pradesh Skill Development Project (MPSDP). The aim is to revolutionize the skill development paradigm in Madhya Pradesh. The signing of this MoU took place in the presence of IIM Indore’s Director, Prof. Himanshu Rai and DTE Principal Secretary Mr. Manu Srivastava. Prof. Subin Sudhir, Chair – Executive Education, IIM Indore; Mr. Ram Ramalingam from SSR GSP; and Ms. Sheetla Patle, representing MPSDP, signed the MoU on December 02, 2023, in Bhopal.

This alliance is poised to redefine skill development in the state by establishing a Centre of Excellence focused on upskilling the youth. Sharing delight over the collaboration, Prof. Rai said, “At IIM Indore, our commitment to nurturing talent extends beyond academic excellence. This collaboration is in line with our dedication to empower the youth by imparting practical skills vital for their career advancement”. This MoU perfectly aligns with our commitment to empowering the youth by imparting not just theoretical knowledge but also essential practical and vocational skills crucial for their career progression. It will prove to be a paradigm shift for Madhya Pradesh, opening doors of multifaceted opportunities and positioning our state’s youth at the forefront of dynamic job markets not just in India but also abroad. “We will also use this collaboration with GSP to instil entrepreneurial spirit in our youth and mentor them in their business ventures”, he said.

SSR GSP operates the Centre for Occupational Skills Acquisition (COSA), focusing on global best practices in training delivery, industry cooperation, pedagogy, assessment, and certification. The genesis of this collaboration stemmed from an Expression of Interest (EoI) issued by SSR GSP, inviting proposals from government organizations to establish and operate Centers of Excellence (COE) within COSA-II. “IIM Indore, demonstrating expertise and commitment in the realm of skill training, formally conveyed its intent to engage in this collaborative effort with SSR GSP and MPSDP”, added Prof. Rai.

The primary aim of this collaboration is to establish a joint effort between distinguished educational institutions, encompassing both public and private entities, to facilitate and administer training programmes within COSA-II at SSR GSP premises. This will help bridge the gap between traditional academic learning and the practical skills demanded by industries. Through certified training programmes meticulously crafted by IIM Indore, this initiative promises to equip the youth with industry-relevant skills, enhancing their employability and catalyzing their integration into the dynamic job market.

Mr. Manu Srivastava said, “IIM Indore will open its centre GSP at Bhopal, and this collaboration will benefit thousands of youths and working professionals of the state by getting trained by renowned experts and faculty members”. The objective of CoE is to impart training on advanced technologies and management modules to the youths of Madhya Pradesh and make them industry-ready and competitive, he added.

IIM Indore, in collaboration with GSP, will work on a curriculum design that enhances students’ readiness for diverse industry domains. By emphasizing hands-on experience, module evaluations, and industry internships, these courses will ensure that students receive comprehensive certification that signifies their preparedness for the competitive global market. These courses will be designed across three distinct models: in-person training courses, blended training programmes, and asynchronous courses enabling participants to learn at their own pace. Faculty and coordinator support from the CoE will facilitate the administration of these courses, ensuring a comprehensive and varied learning experience for aspiring individuals seeking skill enhancement and career readiness.

The SSR GSP and MPSDP will function as facilitators, extending support in terms of infrastructure, essential capital funding, and cutting-edge technology. Simultaneously, IIM Indore will assume responsibility for establishing and managing the CoE within COSA-II, ensuring its sustainable operational functionality.

The MoU sets forth key areas of cooperation, encompassing curriculum development, training programmes, and the enhancement of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. The partners, through this collaboration, aim to transform the TVET system in Madhya Pradesh, ensuring its alignment with evolving industry needs and global standards.

The MoU is a cornerstone in the state’s journey towards socio-economic development. By bolstering skill development, this collaboration aligns with the government’s vision of transforming the TVET system, fostering economic growth, and creating a skilled workforce that meets global standards.
