Message from the Chair, EDPM
It has been long said that change is the only permanent. There is possibly more truth to this today than any time in our history. Major changes are sweeping the world and knowledge is becoming obsolete every day. To survive in this knowledge driven economy, it is important to develop the ability to learn, ‘how to learn’ and to be able to create knew knowledge. The creation and sharing of knowledge are considered to be the cornerstones of successful enterprise and the role of knowledge workers has become paramount.
The Executive Doctoral Programme in Management aims to create outstanding professionals who conduct research in all areas of management and strive to apply this research to real life issues. The objective of the program is to create outstanding researchers in the field of management, who can conduct cutting edge research in their chosen disciplines to address conceptual and practical problems.
The EDPM at IIM Indore involves rigorous coursework in all functional areas of management. These breadth-oriented courses enable the participants to gain understanding in the functional areas of management. This phase is followed by advanced level courses in the area of specialization. The doctoral level courses not only equip the participants to imbibe and learn from classical and contemporary literature in their domain but also train them to review this literature and ultimately funnel down to their research interest within the domain. Participants also undergo advanced courses in research methods to prepare them for their dissertation. The participants are expected to demonstrate competencies in their chosen area by clearing a comprehensive examination at the end of the doctoral level coursework.
After successfully clearing the comprehensive examination the participants are ready to embark upon their own journey of knowledge creation. They are assisted in their research by a Thesis Advisory Committee comprising eminent faculty members from the academic area. The institute provides best-in-class research facilities by way of access to a wide range of academic and business databases, high-end technology, and excellent library infrastructure.
