  2. Female Participants top PGP and PGPHRM
  3. Convocation held in offline mode after two years

The 23rd Convocation of the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) was held on April 09, 2022. A total of 747 participants received their degrees on this occasion. The Chief Guest for the convocation Mr. Sandeep Bakhshi, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Bank, delivered the Convocation Address. The event took place in the presence of Mr. Deepak Satwalekar, Chairman, BoG, IIM Indore and IIM Indore’s Director Prof. Himanshu Rai.

Prof. Himanshu Rai congratulated the Class of 2022 on this occasion. He advised the participants to remain curious, ask questions, and keep learning throughout their journey. ‘The best people are lifelong learners, not frightened to ask for help. Getting support and asking questions will help you succeed’, he said. Stimulate the appetite for curiosity, remain curious, keep learning and growing, but stay bound to your roots. Advising the participants to utilize their knowledge for the welfare of others, he said, ‘Your acumen, capacity for hard work, education, the unique status you have earned, the way you live your life, you protest, the decisions you take – have an impact way beyond your borders – and that’s your privilege. Use this as magic to bring about a positive change in people’s lives.’ He especially congratulated the parents of the graduating participants. ‘Family is the first place that helps us learn; thus, parents are our first teachers and our roots. They are our first relationships, first friends, and first mentors and guiding light. He explained that it is vital to stay connected to our roots and know that you are what you are because of them. He concluded by sharing various significant milestones achieved by the institute during the academic year 2021-22.

Mr. Sandeep Bakshi shared various lessons he learned during his professional journey with the graduating participants. Sharing his experiences, he advised them to avoid cynicism, arrogance, and resistance – for these hinder a person’s success.

‘Do not be arrogant – and don’t let the arrogance of a great persona, wealth, or position ruin your humility. There’s no replacement for hard work, and the concept of having passion, purpose, and positivity would help you achieve your goal. Find what gives you happiness and joy – and continue working passionately for that’, he said. He noted that during one’s professional journey, one must ensure to take into consideration the views of others. ‘You may feel that you are an asset, but you might have now become a liability for others. Being self-aware of this fact is significant, he explained. Don’t label your job and have the right attitude.

He also spoke about the selfless services of the bankers and other COVID warriors during the pandemic and noted how India has significantly seen a disruption in all its industries. ‘We have now realized that our economy is resilient, and our digital infrastructure can hold it strongly. It’s time we embrace the change during disruptions’, he said. Mentioning that this is the best time to enter the industry, Mr. Bakshi encouraged the participants to stay keen on being innovative, curious and updating their knowledge. ‘Being a student, you work hard and achieve high scores. However, as a professional, you may work hard and face challenges. Your industry might go weak, or you may get a demanding boss. Make sure you can balance your emotional and intelligence quotient – for that would help you maintain your position in the industry, he concluded.
