Sound Garden Inaugurated at IIM Indore

IIM Indore considers the well-being of its community members as its supreme priority. The institute is also dedicated to protecting the environment and nature and taking every possible initiative to contribute to the greenification of the campus. In line with this, ‘Anunaad’, the Sound Garden, was inaugurated at the campus on June 21, 2022, by Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore.

The garden was inaugurated, rejoicing the International Yoga Day 2022, which aims at encouraging physical, mental, and spiritual wellness of all. Similarly, music also plays a significant role in our lives, uplifting our mood and adding joy. Thus, inaugurated on World Music Day, Anunaad expresses a new paradigm and holistic approach toward health and wellness.

Inaugurating the garden, Prof. Rai said that sound and music help keep our minds at peace and relieve stress. He noted that our spiritual journey is dependent on three factors – courage, the ability to self-reflect, and being content. ‘You need the courage to overpower your anger, for the courageous people can be humble too. Only the ones who are fearful take out their anger on others. Be kind to yourself and everyone around you, he said. Identify your purpose and find out ways to improve yourself. This will help us strengthen our institute as a whole, for individual contribution would add to the progress. He advised the community to be content. ‘Many times, we believe that we own certain things – our knowledge, job, designation, etc. However, we must remember that what we own today belonged to someone else yesterday and would be inherited by someone else tomorrow. Thus, work hard, stay devoted, and committed, but remember to focus only on your duties rather than results’, he concluded.

Spread over 12,000 square feet, the garden is a blend of many colorful flowering plants and natural sound waves. The windchimes for generating musical sound waves have been sourced from SVARAM Institute of Musical Instruments and Research Center Auroville, Tamil Nadu. These distinct wind chimes produce a powerful energy flow in the environment with their natural sounds, enchanting the environment with cheerful, positive, and happy vibes. This mesmerizing amalgamation of nature and sound is bound to rejuvenate our minds, help us de-stress, and find solace in the beautiful garden. There are about 5000 plants here including different types of roses, night queen and jasmine flowers. This garden is ideal for meditating, reflecting, introspecting, or merely enjoying the beauty of nature.

IIM Indore has been enthusiastic about revamping the empty spaces and transforming those into beautiful, green lands that add to the greenery of the campus. In the last three years, the institute has witnessed the establishment of the Spiritual Garden, the Zen Garden, the Organic Garden, and Sanjeevani – the Horticulture Cell. The institute looks forward to many more green initiatives on campus.
