  • Trained and educated by i-Help, 17 school-going children have received scholarships worth Rs. 8.16L to date

IIM Indore’s mission is to develop socially conscious leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs. In line with this, the participants of IIM Indore also ensure taking several initiatives for the well-being of society. The institute has adopted four government schools in the vicinity as a part of its School Adoption Programme, and i-Help, the student-run initiative, aims to educate, motivate and inculcate the desire to study among those who have been unfortunate enough not to reap the benefits of education. The team tutors the school-going children for various scholarship exams as well.

One such scholarship exam is National Means Cum Merit Scholarship – NMMS, conducted under MHRD for the students of class 8th. It tests mental ability and scholastic aptitude skills. The results of the NMMS 2021 Exam were announced on  June 02, 2022, where four students of Umariya School, who were trained by i-Help, received the coveted scholarship. The students namely, Kajal, Payal, Saniya, and Sonal, will receive Rs. 12,000 per annum for their remaining school years, i.e., from class 9th to 12th. Last year, five students namely, Harshita, Monika, Janvi, and Kushmi, had bagged the scholarship.

Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore, also congratulated the i-Help team on their achievement. ‘We at IIM Indore aim to provide a platform for our budding managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs to explore various horizons, understand the on-field realities, and find ways to contribute to the furtherance of society. I am delighted to see that the i-Help team has efficaciously been able to train, educate and mentor the children of the government school and strengthen their educational journey’, he said. This achievement of the children of the government schools reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of IIM Indore participants as well, who steadily took initiatives to face the challenges amid the pandemic and came up with innovative solutions, thereby introducing the school-going children to digital transformation as well, he added.

Over five years of its operations, i-Help has enabled 17 students to receive scholarships worth Rs. 8.16 Lacs. This feat is a testament to the spectacular efforts of the students and the volunteers of i-Help, achieved during the pandemic. ‘Despite the difficulties of the digital mode pertaining to the access of technology, the sheer hard work of the children in clearing the exam is a true inspiration. We taught them in digital mode for seven months through a well-constructed synergy of pre-recorded videos, live online classes through WhatsApp, modules, and mock tests on the subjects of Mental Ability and Mathematics’, said the i-Help team.

i-Help as an entity reflects the close bond that IIM Indore has with furthering the social good of the society and contributing to the nation’s development. i-Help will look to continue the excellent work this year as well.
