76th Republic Day

The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) celebrated the 76th Republic Day with deep reverence and national pride, reflecting the spirit of unity and patriotism that defines the nation. The ceremonial flag hoisting was led by Director Prof. Himanshu Rai, who was joined by Col. Dr. Gururaj Pamidi (Veteran) and Chief Officer: Administration, marking the beginning of a day full of meaningful reflections, recognition of excellence, and renewed commitment to the values of the Indian Constitution.

In his address, Prof. Rai spoke passionately about the core values enshrined in the Indian Constitution—Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity—and how they continue to guide and inspire the nation. He highlighted the significance of Justice, which is built on two vital pillars: fairness and morality. He stressed the importance of practicing justice not only in legal matters but in every aspect of our lives, whether in personal interactions, professional conduct, or in our duties as citizens. Prof. Rai encouraged the IIM Indore community to embrace justice in its most holistic sense, ensuring that it reflects in their words, actions, and thoughts. Reflecting on Liberty, Prof. Rai emphasized that freedom of speech and thought is a cornerstone of India’s democracy. He urged that liberty should always be exercised with responsibility, ensuring that it aligns with moral integrity. He also mentioned that liberty should empower individuals to act with a sense of justice, responsibility, and awareness of their duties. Further, he said that equality is a principle that must go beyond theoretical ideals and be realized in practical terms. Prof. Rai discussed how India’s Constitution provides for legal equality, but it is crucial to extend this equality to the spheres of education, employment, and social justice. He called for equal opportunities for all, irrespective of gender, background, or status, reinforcing that true equality means ensuring access to opportunities and rights for every citizen. Prof. Rai also urged that policies and actions should reflect this understanding of equality, paving the way for a society where no one is left behind. Lastly, Prof. Rai spoke about Fraternity, emphasizing that it is essential for building a strong, united nation. He pointed out that fraternity is not just about mutual respect but also about collaboration and collective responsibility. It encourages individuals and communities to work together toward common goals, overcoming differences for the greater good of society and the nation. “It is through the spirit of fraternity that we can truly embody the ideals of our Constitution and contribute to the welfare of the nation”, he said.

A key highlight of the event was the felicitation of IIM Indore staff members, who were recognized for their outstanding performance and dedication throughout the year. These individuals, from various departments across the institute, were honored for their exceptional commitment to the institution’s growth and success. Their contributions were integral in ensuring the smooth functioning of both academic and administrative spheres.

In addition, the winners of the Janjatiya Quiz, a special quiz competition organized last year to raise awareness about India’s indigenous communities, were also felicitated. The quiz, which tested participants’ knowledge about the history, culture, and contributions of India’s tribal communities, had participants from across the IIM Indore campus. The quiz winners were honored with prizes for their impressive knowledge and enthusiasm in promoting awareness about these communities, reflecting the institute’s commitment to cultural understanding and inclusivity.

The Republic Day celebrations concluded with a renewed sense of responsibility, encouraging the community to recognize their rights but also embrace their duties as citizens.
