New Batch of EDPM and EDPMG Begins at IIM Indore

IIM Indore Welcomes New Batches of Executive Doctoral Programmes, Reinforcing Its Vision of Creating Impactful Scholar-Leaders

Continuing its legacy of academic excellence and social impact, the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) inaugurated the 15th batch of its Executive Doctoral Programme in Management (EDPM) and the 5th batch of the Executive Doctoral Programme in Management & Governance (EDPMG) on July 14, 2025. The ceremony marked another milestone in IIM Indore’s mission to develop socially conscious, research-driven leaders who can drive transformative change in business, government, and society.

The batches were inaugurated by Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore. Chief Guest Dr. Uttiyo Raychaudhury, Vice Provost, University of Denver, USA, and Prof. Rajhans Mishra, Chair – Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM), were also present on this occasion.

In his address, Prof. Himanshu Rai highlighted several key initiatives by IIM Indore aimed at addressing real-life challenges such as inequality, the rural-urban divide, and environmental degradation. He emphasized that the institute’s mission goes beyond academics and strives to be a driving force for national development. Inviting scholars to contribute meaningfully, he stressed that becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047 requires building robust systems and solving governance challenges. “At IIM Indore, we are committed to nurturing leaders who blend knowledge with compassion and research with purpose. Our executive doctoral programmes are designed for professionals who aspire to solve real-world problems through cutting-edge scholarship,” he noted. He shared his aspiration to nurture not just warrior scholars but “scholar warriors” who can both develop and defend the nation intellectually. “Bring three essential qualities to their research journey: a deep hunger for knowledge, humility, and curiosity; integrity in both thought and action; and the temperament to stay engaged”, he said. He encouraged the participants to choose topics that excite them, add value to others, and lead to meaningful learning. “When all three align, you know you’re on the right path,” he concluded.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Uttiyo Raychaudhury expressed delight at visiting IIM Indore, praising it as an inspiring institution that is transforming the higher education landscape. He lauded IIM Indore’s remarkable progress under the leadership of Prof. Himanshu Rai. He noted that this journey marks a new chapter co-authored by the participants and the institute. Unlike earlier phases of education pursued out of necessity, he emphasized that this phase is driven by passion and choice. True success, he said, requires not just competence but a “multiplier attitude”- the mindset that brought participants here.  He urged scholars to be bold, embrace failure as part of learning, and bring innovation and curiosity into their research. “You are the author of your story, so write it with openness, creativity, and a commitment to impact,” he concluded, encouraging collaboration and purpose.

Prof. Rajhans Mishra highlighted IIM Indore’s journey of progress and innovation, noting that it was the first IIM to launch the EDPMG programme. “You, as participants contribute this course, as you bring real-world problems into academic spaces, find solutions, and take them back to your sectors,” he noted. He also stressed the importance of addressing governance-related challenges through rigorous exploration. Prof. Mishra urged the scholars to approach the journey with an open mind and a deep commitment to learning.

The 2025 intake includes 24 participants (18 in EDPM and 6 in EDPMG), representing a rich blend of backgrounds including engineering, finance, technology, social sciences, and urban governance. The diversity of the cohort underscores the growing appeal of IIM Indore’s executive research programmes among high-achieving professionals.
