Aditya Deshbandhu has a doctoral and masters’ degree in communication from the Sarojini Naidu School of Arts & Communication, University of Hyderabad. His academic interests predominantly lie in the field of new media studies and the emerging field of game studies; his doctoral dissertation was titled “Digital Play in Everyday Life: The Ludic Practices of Indian Gamers.”
Dr. Deshbandhu has a forthcoming book with Routledge (an imprint of Taylor and Francis) on Gaming Culture in India, later this year. His teaching experience includes courses on Media Management, Media Economics and Digital Culture.
Aditya’s research interests lie in the domains of new media and digitality and the emerging sub-field of game studies. His approach to research is largely inter-disciplinary and his disposition qualitative. An academic primarily trained in communication and media studies most of Aditya’s research seeks to identify answer emerging trends in the same.
Aditya’s prior experience includes organizing and conducting workshops that focus on digital and communication-based initiatives for social change. His work with ICT4D based organizations, educational partners and the gaming industry allows him to offer a varied perspective.
Aditya’s forays into the gaming industry, digital platforms and cyberculture provide him with a unique skillset to understand user engagement. A researcher who examines the quality of experience and the various facets of engagement, Aditya can offer a nuanced take on existing tech-based perspectives by situating them in the societal realm.
