Prof. (Dr.) Prashant Salwan is a Professor of Strategy and International Business at the Indian Institute of Management Indore, India. An alumnus of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), UK, he is both a British Chevening Scholar and a Fulbright Scholar. He has close to thirty years of professional experience, including twenty‑two years in academia and eight years in industry. He holds a PhD in Technology Management and Strategy and two postgraduate degrees in Management and International Trade. His education and executive training span premier global institutions, including the University of Pune, LSE, Harvard Business School, the University of Michigan (Ross School of Management), the University of Oxford, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta. He has also completed specialized leadership training for higher education institutions at the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign.
At IIM Indore, Prof. Salwan teaches Strategic Management, Corporate Strategy, Business Models, and International Business across postgraduate and executive postgraduate programs. Internationally, he has taught in the USA, France, the UK, the UAE, as well as in India. He also offers PhD‑level seminar courses in Research Methodology, Public Administration, and Business Model Innovation in the DPM, EDPMG, and EDPM programs, and has successfully supervised numerous doctoral scholars. He has delivered invited talks at The Ohio State University, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is a regular invitee for lectures on business models and innovation at the Wharton School’s Center for Advanced Studies in Management, and has served as Senior Research and Teaching Fellow at both the Wharton School and the University of Texas at Dallas.
Prof. Salwan has extensive consulting and training experience with the Government of India, multiple state governments, and leading international institutions such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), as well as with major Indian and foreign multinationals. His Fortune Global 1000 client portfolio includes TCS, Tata Power, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), LG, Thomas Cook, Panasonic, Suzuki Japan, the ADAG Group, ONGC, GAIL, the Aditya Birla Group, EIL, IPCA, ICICI Bank, SBI, Infosys, Wipro, HAL, BEL and others. He was the lead researcher for the Indian Competitiveness Project of the Government of India, the Autonomy and Strategic Planning Project of the World Bank, and the Knowledge Management in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) initiative supported by ADB. He has also served as a consultant to UNDP, the Ministry of Education / MHRD, and the Governments of Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, and Gujarat.
As Chairman of the “Center for Indian Multinationals Education and Research” (CIMER), Prof. Salwan led a research centre focused on six thrust areas related to Indian multinationals and global business. Under his leadership, CIMER produced 12 refereed journal publications, six international conference papers, and 12 case studies. He co‑organized the 6th Annual Academy of International Business – India Chapter and CIMER International Conference on Globalization and Emerging Economies, which accepted 160 abstracts across 28 technical sessions and attracted delegates from America, the UK, and the Middle East. Notably, the research centre was self‑sustaining and generated its own funds.
Dr. Salwan has around eighty‑five research publications in national and international journals, including Harvard Business Review, Journal of International Management, Public Administration and Development (PAD), Journal of Knowledge Management, IEEE journals, Journal of International Business and Education (UK), Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Indian Journal of Industrial Relations, Indian Management Journal, Journal of Management and Technology, and Defence Science Journal. He has authored 48 case studies, many of which are published by leading repositories such as Harvard Business School Publishing, Ivey Publishing, and ECCH. He has co‑authored four textbooks in the areas of International Business, International Marketing, Takeovers, Restructuring and Corporate Governance (Mergers and Acquisitions), and Strategic Management, as well as a research book titled Best Business Practices for Global Competitiveness. These works have been published by McGraw Hill, Pearson, and Sterling Publishers.
Beyond academia and consulting, Dr. Salwan regularly writes opinion and analysis pieces for leading newspapers, including Business Standard, The Times of India, DNA Money, and Hindi dailies such as Dainik Bhaskar, Patrika, and Hari Bhoomi. He has received numerous awards for both teaching and research, including the Best Teacher Award at IIM Indore. He serves as a Board Member in government public sector organizations and as a member of the Academic Committee of NAAC. He has also been part of several high‑power committees of AICTE and UGC, and has served as Dean (Programs) at IIM Indore.
