Dr. Srikanth Nayaka is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Communication Area. He holds a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati, an M.A. in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Hyderabad, and a B.A. (Hons.) in Mass Communication and Journalism from The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad.
Prior to joining IIM Indore, Dr. Nayaka served as an Assistant Professor and Co-Chairperson of the Board of Studies in the Department of Media Studies at GITAM School of Humanities and Social Sciences (GSHSS), GITAM (Deemed to be University), Hyderabad.
His research focuses on digital media, creator cultures, and the political economy of platform labour, with a particular emphasis on rural and small-town India. His doctoral dissertation, titled “YouTube, Online Videos, and Creator Labour in Rural South India,” explores how emerging digital creators from non-urban regions navigate visibility, aspiration, and labour in platform
economies.
His research has been published in leading academic journals such as the International Journal of Communication, International Journal of Cultural Studies, and International Journal of Web-Based Communities, as well as in the edited volume Border Crossings and Mobilities on Screen (Routledge).
Dr. Nayaka has travelled widely and actively participated in international academic conferences and workshops at prestigious institutions, including the University of Wisconsin–Madison (USA), the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands), RMIT University (Melbourne, Australia), Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia), the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), and the University of Oregon (Eugene, USA).
