Geo-Political Wicked Problems and Design Thinking Strategies

Overview

Geo-political wicked problems (GPWP) across the globe are rapidly undermining the notion of the world as a global village by eroding the edifice of trans-continental trade and global value chains. GPWPs are wicked as they quickly adapt to targeted solutions and emerge in a different and often deadlier form. For example, tariffs can (i) erect import barriers, (ii) protect/incentivize local industries, and (iii) reduce trade deficit, and this may lead to (a) enhanced import cost, (b) stagflation, (c) enhanced budgetary deficits, and (d) a higher debt to GDP ratio. Common people suffer the most on both sides of the barrier in addition to business corporations, whose supply chains get disrupted.

Therefore, it is important to understand the various nuances of GPWP and contain the fallout and restore equilibrium through collective wisdom and design thinking strategies.
