Lean Six Sigma for Business Excellence

Overview

Global competition and increasingly discerning customers are driving businesses to optimize operations and streamline supply chain processes to deliver high-quality products faster. Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is a practical, application-oriented approach that integrates Lean’s waste reduction with Six Sigma’s focus on minimizing variability and defects to enhance process efficiency and quality. Originating from the Toyota Production System (TPS), Lean emphasizes eliminating non-value-added activities, while Six Sigma targets process variations that lead to defects. The DMAIC methodology – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control – provides a structured framework for problem-solving and continuous improvement. Widely adopted across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, finance, and services, LSS helps organizations streamline operations, reduce waste, and improve customer satisfaction. The course offers an insight into these.

Objectives

  • To develop a foundation in Lean and Six Sigma philosophies to obtain an ASQ (American Society of Quality) certification in future.
  • To introduce and discuss characteristics of Toyota Production System (TPS) practices and introduce various elements and guiding principles of lean system.
  • To understand process flow and value stream mapping and its role in waste reduction.
  • To help in designing the road map for JIT implementation and understanding the various issues involved in linking suppliers to customers through JIT delivery.
  • Develop the skills to lead process improvement projects, perform detailed data analysis and apply Six Sigma tools, including statistical process control.
  • Understand the flow and objectives of each of the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) problem-solving steps.
  • Use real-life case studies to understand practical applications of Six Sigma tools.
  • Apply Six Sigma critical tools and techniques to eliminate defects and reduce process variation.
