Hindi Diwas Celebrated at IIM Indore

Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) celebrated Hindi Diwas on September 11, 2026, as part of its Hindi Fortnight celebrations, reaffirming its continued commitment to promoting Hindi and strengthening the use of Indian languages in institutional communication and learning. The programme brought together members of the IIM Indore community for an engaging celebration of Hindi through dialogue, literature, journalism, and creative expression.

The programme was inaugurated by Col. Dr. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi, Chief Officer: Administration, IIM Indore. Addressing the gathering, he spoke about the enduring relevance of Hindi in connecting people across India’s diverse linguistic and cultural landscape. Drawing on his experience serving in different parts of the country, he highlighted how language can serve as a bridge, enabling communication, understanding, and a sense of belonging. He emphasized that India’s linguistic diversity is one of its greatest strengths and that the growth of Hindi should go hand in hand with respect for all Indian languages.

The highlight of the celebration was a panel discussion on the theme “Hindi Journalism: Challenges & Opportunities”. The discussion brought together three experts from Hindi journalism: Dr. Amit Mandloi, Resident Editor, Dainik Bhaskar; Mr. Jitendra Vyas, Resident Editor, Naidunia; and Mr. Amit Karma, Resident Editor, Patrika.

The panel explored the changing landscape of Hindi journalism and the forces shaping its future. The discussion touched upon the growing influence of digital media, changing reader preferences, the emergence of artificial intelligence, the need for credible and responsible journalism, and the opportunities presented by the expanding Hindi-speaking digital audience.

Mr. Anil Karma spoke about the evolving nature of Hindi and the increasing use of Hinglish and Roman script in everyday communication. He noted that language continuously adapts to changing times and communication practices. He emphasized that Hindi should remain open to contemporary forms of expression to connect effectively with younger readers.

Dr. Amit Mandloi highlighted the enduring emotional connection between readers and newspapers. Comparing a newspaper to an Indian ‘thali’, he noted that it brings together news, sports, opinions, features, and useful information for different sections of society on a single platform. He observed that despite the growth of websites and social media, newspapers continue to offer comprehensive reading and meaningful engagement.

Dr. Jitendra Vyas discussed the growing challenge of fake news and emphasized the importance of credibility, verification, and responsible reporting. Referring to the rapid spread of unverified information on digital platforms, he highlighted the need for journalists and readers to carefully assess the authenticity of news before sharing or publishing it.

The event also marked the release of the eleventh issue of the Institute’s Hindi magazine, Gyaan Shikhar. The magazine features literary and creative contributions from members of the IIM Indore community, reflecting the institution’s continued efforts to provide a platform for Hindi expression and creativity.

The celebrations also included the felicitation of winners of various competitions conducted during the Hindi Fortnight. The competitions encouraged students, faculty, and staff members to engage with Hindi through writing, debate, poetry, and other forms of creative expression. These activities witnessed enthusiastic participation and highlighted the growing interest in Hindi across the IIM Indore community.

As part of the programme, the Rajbhasha Department also presented an overview of Hindi use at the Institute and outlined initiatives to further strengthen its use in official communication and institutional activities.

The celebration reflected IIM Indore’s continued commitment to creating an environment in which Indian languages are respected, encouraged, and integrated into the institution’s academic and administrative life. Through its Hindi Fortnight and year-round initiatives, IIM Indore continues to recognize language as an important element of cultural identity, communication, and inclusive access to knowledge.

The programme concluded with a renewed emphasis on carrying forward the spirit of Hindi Fortnight beyond the celebrations and encouraging greater use of Hindi in the everyday functioning of the Institute.
