IIM Indore Hosts International Partners’ Day – ‘SETU: Bridging Academic Excellence 2025’ to Celebrate Global Collaborations
The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore), renowned for its dynamic global collaborations and steadfast commitment to building bridges of academic excellence, hosted the second edition of its International Partners’ Day – SETU: Bridging Academic Excellence – on October 8, 2025. The event brought together distinguished academicians and thought leaders from 17 premier partner institutions across 13 countries, including Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom, Norway, Ireland, Germany, the United States, France, Brazil, South Africa, Sweden, Australia, and Romania. The gathering served as a vibrant forum for deepening institutional alliances, discussing the role of innovation and technology in advancing global education, and co-creating pathways for a more sustainable and equitable future.
In his welcome address, Prof. Himanshu Rai highlighted IIM Indore’s continued evolution as a global institution deeply engaged in addressing some of the world’s most complex and pressing challenges. He spoke about how the institute is tackling various “wicked problems”, ranging from income disparity and rural issues to urban challenges and environmental problems – through initiatives and collaborations that transcend geographical and disciplinary boundaries. Prof. Rai emphasized that IIM Indore’s collaborations are not just academic exchanges but enduring relationships built on shared values and a collective commitment to societal progress. He reiterated the Institute’s goal of shaping leaders who are not only competent professionals but also compassionate change-makers equipped to navigate uncertainty and drive meaningful impact.
A highlight of the event was the engaging panel discussion on “AI for Sustainability,” which featured an exceptional line-up of global experts: Dr. Uttiyo Raychaudhuri, Vice Provost for Internationalization at the University of Denver; Prof. Andrea Sianesi, Dean at MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business; Dr. Julia Christine Balogun, Dean at the University of Liverpool; and Dr. Simon Fraser, International Engagement Lead and Principal Lecturer at Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University. The session was moderated by Prof. Sayantan Banerjee, PGP Chair at IIM Indore. The discussion explored how artificial intelligence can be harnessed to promote sustainability, inclusivity, and ethical innovation. The panelists examined how universities can serve as catalysts for responsible technological advancement, ensuring that AI not only enhances efficiency but also contributes to solving global social and environmental challenges. The dialogue centered on the crucial role of education in fostering a future where technology and humanity advance in tandem.
The day also featured a series of thought-provoking presentations that highlighted IIM Indore’s distinctive initiatives, aimed at driving sustainable development, cultural preservation, and leadership through experiential learning. Prof. Shruti Tewari (Dean – Research) shared how ANVESHAN, IIM Indore’s Centre of Excellence on Waste Management and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), adopts an interdisciplinary approach to translating research into real-world impact, as well as its efforts to train policymakers and urban leaders in sustainable waste management practices. Prof. Srinivas Gunta shared insights on the Rural Engagement Programme (REP), which immerses students in rural communities to co-create solutions for local development while nurturing empathy-driven leadership. Prof. Surbhi Dayal shared a colourful presentation on Mithila Art for Managers – an elective for our MBA students – illustrating how this ancient artistic tradition embodies resilience, storytelling, and creativity, qualities essential for holistic leadership and cultural understanding. Prof. Kamal Sharma shared insights into our Himalayan Outbound Programme (HOP), which integrates experiential learning and leadership development amid the challenging terrains of the Himalayas, boosting self-awareness, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
The delegates also participated in a campus tour and a tree plantation ceremony, symbolizing growth, renewal, and the enduring strength of international partnerships. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and shared purpose as participants from across continents exchanged ideas and envisioned new collaborations.
A rejuvenating yoga session led by Prof. Himanshu Rai was also held in the serene Spiritual Garden, where international delegates participated in a meditative practice that emphasized mindfulness, balance, and harmony, the very principles that reflect IIM Indore’s vision for global collaboration rooted in awareness and well-being. This created a sense of unity and reflection, setting a meaningful tone for the day’s engagements.
The delegates were also treated to a captivating cultural excursion to the historic town of Maheshwar, a timeless gem nestled along the tranquil banks of the Narmada River. Renowned for its majestic temples, exquisite handloom sarees, and regal architecture, Maheshwar offered participants a glimpse into the region’s rich artistic and spiritual heritage. The visit served as a fitting reminder of the deep cultural traditions that inspire creativity, resilience, and community, values that resonate strongly with IIM Indore’s ethos.
Through ‘SETU: Bridging Academic Excellence 2025,’ IIM Indore once again reaffirmed its position as a pioneer in cultivating enduring global partnerships that transcend borders, disciplines, and cultures. The event was far more than a forum for academic exchange, it was a celebration of shared purpose, global unity, and the collective pursuit of sustainable and inclusive progress. Delegates experienced the warmth of Indian hospitality and the vibrant cultural spirit of the campus, departing with renewed inspiration to strengthen the bridges of learning, innovation, and mutual growth that connect institutions across the world.
