IIM Indore successfully organized the highly anticipated 4-I Summit on the theme “Indigenous Innovations in Indian Industries” today. Organized by the Industry Interface Office (IIO) of the institute, the summit brought together leading experts from across various sectors to discuss India’s evolving industrial landscape and its growing potential for self-reliance through homegrown innovations.

The event was inaugurated by Col. Dr. Gururaj Gopinath Pamidi (Veteran), COA, IIM Indore, who set the stage with a powerful speech emphasizing the need for India to embrace indigenous solutions in an increasingly globalized world. Col. Pamidi underlined how innovation-driven industries are the key to India’s growth and called for the collaborative effort of academia and industry in fostering homegrown technologies. The inaugural address was followed by a welcome speech by Prof. Shubhabrata Basu, Chair – IIO, IIM Indore, who highlighted the summit’s significance in bringing together thought leaders from across the industrial spectrum.

The summit featured a distinguished panel of speakers, each offering valuable insights into their respective industries. Commander Shantanu Bose (Retd.), Director of Shipbuilding at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), shared a compelling vision of India’s maritime future. He spoke about the innovative products and projects developed by GRSE and emphasized how the shipbuilding industry is creating new opportunities for local talent and regional industries. His talk focused on the importance of a collaborative ecosystem that includes local suppliers and partners to drive innovation in shipbuilding.

Mr. Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer and Vice President at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., discussed the spillover effects of industrial innovations. He explained how competition in the automotive sector drives agility and encourages rapid adoption of cutting-edge technologies. His insights shed light on how industry-level innovation fosters an environment of continuous improvement, creating opportunities for businesses and consumers alike to benefit from more efficient, sustainable, and advanced products.

Dr. Vikas Prasad, President & Managing Director of Webasto Roofsystems India Pvt. Ltd., provided an in-depth look at the evolution of sunroof systems and their impact on automotive design. Dr. Prasad showcased the advancements in energy-efficient technologies that are shaping the future of automotive interiors. His talk highlighted the role of innovation in enhancing comfort, safety, and sustainability in vehicles, as well as the growing potential of India’s automotive industry on the global stage.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Prof. Shubhabrata Basu, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, participants, and the IIO for coordinating the summit.

Attended by the students, faculty and staff, the 4-I Summit was a day of enriching discussions and an affirmation of India’s growing role as a global hub for innovation and industrial excellence.
