1. Compulsory Course – Philosophy of Research: 2 credits

1. After Module-IV the candidate will be required to appear for the area qualifying examination and the Area Chairperson will coordinate with the candidate of their respective area for the examination.
2. The candidate has to successfully clear the exam before commencement of Thesis Stage.
3. The candidate who do not qualify the exam shall be given a second and last attempt to complete the requirement.
4. In the event of failure to pass the Area Qualifying exam in the second and last attempt, the matter will be placed before the EDPM Executive Committee and on the recommendation of the EDPM EC the candidate will have to exit from the programme.

This examination is administered by the area. Area Qualifying Examination Committees (AQEC) will be formed by the chairperson of the respective area on completion of EDPM Course Work (Module I, I, III & IV)).
The Area Qualifying Examination Committee (AQEC) will be constituted by the Area Chairperson in consultation with the area. This has to comprise of two members from area and one member from outside the area. One of the two members from the area will head the committee as Chairperson and will arrange for administering the comprehensive examination.
Once AQEC is formed, the area may decide on the nature/pattern of the exam and communicate the same to the students. The exam can take place only after the course work (Module -I,II,III ) results are declared.
For the participant to be declared “pass” in the area qualifying examination (AQE), at least two of the three members of the AQEC have to vote to pass the participant. If a participant fails the examination in the first attempt, a second and last chance will be given.
