Prevention of Substance Use/Drug Abuse at IIM Indore
IIM Indore is committed to promoting a safe, healthy, and drug-free learning environment for all students and stakeholders. In this regard, the Institute has established a standardized process for the Prevention of Substance Use/Drug Abuse and the introduction of screening and wellness-based interventions.
The initiative aims to provide an ethical, student-centric, and evidence-based framework focused on student well-being, support, rehabilitation, and safeguarding campus integrity.
For identification and early intervention relating to substance use among students, the following mechanisms will be adopted as per Institute policy:
- Questionnaire-Based Screening (WHO-ASSIST based assessment)
- Urine-Based Testing
During awareness and de-addiction initiatives conducted under this program, the questionnaire-based screening shall serve as the primary mechanism for assessment.
Wherever considered necessary, urine-based testing may be conducted with informed consent of the student, while ensuring strict confidentiality and a supportive environment throughout the academic course.
In cases requiring further intervention, appropriate assessment/testing may be undertaken with the student’s consent, while maintaining complete confidentiality. The related expenditure, wherever applicable, shall be borne by the Institute.
The Institute emphasizes that the entire process shall be:
- The testing process shall be preventive, rehabilitative, and student-friendly in nature, non-punitive and supportive, focused on student wellness and well-being.
- No academic, administrative, residential, or disciplinary consequences shall arise solely on account of screening/test outcomes.
- Screening/test outcomes shall not result in punishment, suspension, expulsion, denial of admission, or denial of hostel facilities.
- Strict confidentiality and privacy of students shall be maintained at all stages, particularly in positive cases.
- The process is intended solely for awareness, support, counselling, and rehabilitation purposes.
IIM Indore remains committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and healthy campus environment through awareness and sensitization, counselling support, preventive initiatives, and responsible wellness practices for all students.
