Dr. Sayantan Mukherjee is a faculty member in Communications. He has previously taught courses in argumentative writing, writing composition, writing across curriculum, English grammar, and linguistics to undergraduate students at Arizona State University and Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona, US. At IIM Indore, he teaches courses such as Managerial Communication, Oral Communication, Organizational Communication, etc. across programs, including customized sessions in the executive programs.
Dr. Mukherjee earned his Ph.D. in linguistics and applied linguistics from Arizona State University in 2019. His doctoral dissertation investigated skin-color racism in the context of the urban male population of the Indian subcontinent from a multimodal critical discourse analytic approach. Dr. Mukherjee holds an M.A. and an M.Phil. in linguistics from the University of Delhi, India. His current publications explore a variety of areas in theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, and human communication with special emphasis on management-related topics. His research work has been acknowledged in the form of research awards, fellowships, grants, and conference presentations. Dr. Mukherjee’s research interests include critical discourse analysis, racism, multimodal analysis, language and gender, colorism, stigma, language and identity, conversation analysis, minimalist syntax, morphology, TESOL, intercultural communication, managerial communication in finance, and tourism management.
As a qualitative researcher, Dr. Mukherjee considers multidisciplinary methodology the perfect tool to investigate potential research topics. He is curious about social phenomena that are comprised of complex layers of human language, context, ideology, biases, culture, communication, social media, and multiple modalities.
