Dr. Sayantan Mukherjee is a faculty member in the area of Communications. He has previously taught courses in argumentative writing, writing composition, writing across curriculum, English grammar, and linguistics to undergraduate students at Arizona State University and Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona, US.
Dr. Mukherjee earned his Ph.D. in linguistics and applied linguistics from Arizona State University in 2019. His doctoral dissertation investigates skin-color racism in the context of urban male population of the Indian subcontinent from a multimodal critical discourse analytic approach. Dr. Mukherjee holds an M.A. and an M.Phil. in linguistics from the University of Delhi, India. His current publications explore a variety of areas in theoretical and applied linguistics. His research work has been acknowledged in the form of research awards, fellowships, grants, and conference presentations. Dr. Mukherjee’s present research interests include critical discourse analysis, colorism, multimodal analysis, language and gender, language and identity, conversation analysis, minimalist syntax, intercultural communication, and advertisement analysis.
As a qualitative researcher, Dr. Mukherjee finds multidisciplinary methodology as the perfect tool to investigate potential research topics. He is curious about social phenomena that are comprised of complex layers of human language, context, ideology, biases, culture, communication, and multiple modalities.
