Finding Her Voice: A Woman’s Guide to Self-Expression and Negotiation

Overview

This group-coaching based programme provides the participants with a 360 degree view of their personalities and life goals. Aiming towards self actualisation, it provides an opportunity for reflection, as well as techniques rooted in science and academia to speak up for themselves and negotiate to their advantage.

Objectives

At the end of the programme, participants should be able to:

  • Identify core values and beliefs.
  • Use the newly acquired techniques to communicate their needs clearly and effectively.
  • Learn from the others in group and be able to share stories and grow together.
  • Use this shared learning to steer themselves forward in the desired direction, with the help of the newly-created network.

Content

Day 1: The current landscape for working Indian women

  • Growing female labour force participation and entrepreneurial ambition in India and the unique challenges it creates for women in terms of workplace and household expectations.
  • The cognitive load of balancing work and family life, in the context of the Indian patriarchal attitudes and gender roles.
  • Low self-confidence among now financially independent Indian women in making their own financial decisions, which are still often outsourced to the men of the family.
  • Research highlighting psychological and behavioural differences between the genders – lower self-confidence among women, lower self-worth, and difficulty in putting themselves out there. This is one of the factors responsible for the pervasive gender gap in salaries.
  • Open discussion – current challenges.

Day 2: What does the modern woman need (a Coaching exercise for the group, undertaken by each participant individually)

  • Identifying individual core values and long-term vision for each participant.
  • Creating a priority wheel to identify areas that are key to personal happiness and well-being. These will, almost definitely, differ across participants.
  • Identifying areas among those identified, that seem to require the most work and the next steps.
  • Open discussion – encouraging participants to share their responses and thoughts.

Day 3: A solution-oriented approach to growth and autonomy

  • Putting oneself out there: learning the subtle art of negotiation.
  • Tapping into women’s networks and support groups.
  • Developing and maintaining autonomy – the need for financial independence.
  • Open discussion – sharing one’s story and creating an environment of trust and safety.

For Whom

Women of all age groups, regardless of their employment status.
