Programme Overview

The programme is designed based on the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It specifically addresses the need for well-trained and experienced professionals in institutional leadership, as highlighted in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The programme’s specific objectives are to nurture faculty at different levels, particularly at the early stage of their career, thereby creating a pool of potential leaders for generational transition. Considering this objective, Nurturing Future Leadership Program under the aegis of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP), Ministry of Education, Government of India, will aim to achieve the following objectives:

  • Inculcate leadership skills in faculty members at an early level in their careers to advance individual and organizational goals.
  • Provide broad-based leadership skills for all faculty across all levels.
  • Expand the pool of potential leaders for the range of leadership positions in HEls.
  • Prepare faculty to contribute effectively and proactively in collective decision-making, shared governance, developing initiatives, and problem-solving.
  • Enabling the institute administration by building an efficient leadership quality among faculty.

The course will provide faculty participants with an integrated and comprehensive view of leadership and its Impact on HEIs. The course will begin by understanding oneself and the impact that one’s behavior has on others. The programme will enable an appreciation of different theories and models of leadership and sensitize the participants to various aspects of leadership. The leader’s impact on groups and individuals will be explored through multiple interactive case discussions and exercises. Essential leadership skills like communication, coaching, and goal setting will also be discussed in the context of HEI. The course also aims to present leadership from an experiential learning approach; the participants not only read the concepts but also practice and experiment by using some of these techniques in a simulated academic institution. The programme will also focus on the need for a more focused approach to teaching in HEls as a tool for developing human capital and influencing the behavior and attitude of the students. Imparting fresh knowledge and skills and reinforcing new learning about the evolving technology in teaching students and professionals is a constant challenge. The programme content will be designed under the following areas:

  • Introduction and theories of leadership.
  • Understanding oneself and the impact of one’s behaviour on others.
  • Essential leadership skills, like communication, feedback, coaching, and goal setting.
  • Leadership impact on teams.
